Your own physician may not fully cooperate, or may provide you with a referral to a local, friendly colleague. Even if you know which (leading) expert you wish to consult, it may be tough to connect with this specialist. It also is often very difficult to collect all the materials the expert asks for, to get these materials over to the center of excellence expeditiously, and to then fully understand the expert's recommendations. Typically, significant time and resources are spent in the process, including unnecessary travel and repeat diagnostics, and the result may be less than satisfactory, with lingering questions and open-ended issues.
